Cancellation of Tsunami Warning to Auckland 02
Auckland Civil Defence has been advised that there is no further tsunami risk to Auckland from the earthquake that occurred at the Kermadec Islands today at 7:03am today. However, as a precaution, Auckland Civil Defence is continuing to monitor the situation.
- Wave activity around New Zealand is expected to continue but to decline in height over the next few hours.
- There is still a likelihood of strong currents in coastal areas.
- Beach areas should now be safe, however people should remain alert for unusual sea activity.
“Today was a timely reminder about the very real need that an emergency can happen at any time and everyone must be prepared,” said Auckland Civil Defence Controller Clive Manley.
